I, of course, am madly in love with B and think he is the most spectacular organism on the planet, but I have to deal with all of the clothes he poops on and face never sleeping again for the rest of my life. My mom, however, can shower him with a mother's unconditional love that is also free of the burdens of poop stains and under-eye circles. Additionally, she has the benefit of having watched this process before. She knows from experience that none of these stages last forever and that one day I'll miss all of it, even the poop. (We'll see about that one.) She is truly able to appreciate and cherish every single thing that B does and he is so lucky to have someone in his life every day who feels that way about him. While it's wonderful to witness my son be showered with love in this way, the lovefest also helps to lift me out of my fog at times. When I wake up cursing what a bad sleeper he is, my mom can shift my focus to how wonderful it is that he is now able to pick up toys that he dropped. Every day she notices a change in him. Without her here, those tiny milestone celebrations would likely pass me by.
Most importantly, however, my mom brings me great joy by saying and doing ridiculous things to express her
So now for this week's rainbow poops...
-Overheard while B was on the changing table: "Oh Benny! What a super good finger sucker you are! You must be the best finger sucker in the whole wide world!!"
-My mom has combed the internet, local big box stores, and grocery stores in search of the perfect water bottle. B likes looking at water bottles so she is determined to find him one that is small enough that he can hold. We now have innumerable clear plastic containers and dedicated trips planned to seek out more. The latest idea is to get TSA approved travel shampoo bottles so that he can experience the joy of water swishing around in his own little hands without spillage. (The small containers from the craft store were the perfect size but since they are intended to store beads they are not water-tight.)
-My mom read that B's sense of smell is now fully developed so she's come up with a full smell curriculum. They spent an hour smelling coffee beans and the entire contents of the spice drawer.
